Tanisha Abernathy is a passionate professional with over 10 years of experience developing cross-channel, marketing programs. Prior to being selected as a National Urban Fellow, she held the position of Vice President, Account Director at Grey, an international advertising agency, headquartered in New York.
In this role, she led a cross-functional team of twenty in developing the strategy and creative execution of patient communications and support programs for people living with Type I and Type II Diabetes. Her work trajectory in the public sector began when she took on a pro bono, PSA assignment to drive awareness of the need for adoption from foster care in the United States. The “You don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent” campaign, has garnered industry accolades and awards for both creativity and effectiveness, and helped drive both interest and action amongst prospective parents across the country.
Tanisha graduated cum laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing. Since then, it was her strong desire to make public service her life’s work and support organizations that solve social issues which led her to become a National Urban Fellow.
In her mentorship placement at New Jersey Health Initiatives of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (NJHI), Tanisha was given the opportunity to leverage her work experience to develop a communications strategy to support NJHI’s current program strategy. She was also tasked with providing oversight for existing grantee cohorts, as well as reviewing applications and conducting site visits for the program’s 2015 CFP.
