Master facilitator, curriculum writer and program developer, Abdul-Qawiy (Cow-Wee) Abdul-Karim is a career educator. He has partnered with notable organizations such as the Posse Foundation, the City University of New York (CUNY), Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx), Goddard Institute and Creative Connections. His programs have reached thousands of students in New York and the DC area.
In 2007 Mr. Abdul-Karim accepted a Trainer position at the Posse Foundation where he honed his skill as a facilitator. At Posse he maintained a 90% college graduation rate for his students attending some of the top colleges in our country. In 2009 he moved back home to New York where he gained classroom experience as the founding math teacher at top performing Achievement First Brooklyn High School. He quickly advanced to the Associate Director of Character Development where he helped design and managed school culture protocols. In 2011 he left Achievement First to write college readiness curriculum at Creative Connections. Within a year that curriculum facilitated a two fold increase in Title 1 school contracts providing twice as many students the opportunity to enroll in college.
Mr. Abdul Karim earned his Bachelors degree in Economics and Sociology from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. He looks forward to the National Urban Fellows experience and to continuing his career within the public sector since he believes it will give him the greatest opportunity to develop sustainable solutions for social issues.
